Toyota is gearing up for an exciting year in Australian motorsport, featuring a lineup of thrilling events and competitions. Kicking off the action is the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia (TGRA) Rally Team, taking on the challenging dirt tracks around Canberra in early April. Following this, the TGRA Scholarship Series will hit the track at Sydney Motorsport Park in late April, providing a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills.
A highlight of the year is the debut of the new GR86 racecar, set to make its competition debut at Townsville in July as part of the rebranded TGRA GR Cup. This series, formerly known as the TGRA 86 Series, will serve as a support category at five rounds of the Supercars Championship, taking place in Townsville, Sydney Motorsport Park, Sandown, and Bathurst, with the final round at Surfers Paradise.
As Toyota’s second-tier entry-level race series, the TGRA Scholarship Series will feature the current Toyota 86 racecar across five rounds at various iconic locations, including Sydney Motorsport Park, The Bend in SA, Phillip Island in Victoria, Queensland Raceway, and Sandown in Melbourne. The series will culminate in a Scholarship Evaluation Day at Norwell Motorplex in Queensland.
Reigning ARC champions Harry Bates and co-driver Coral Taylor are set to engage in a fierce competition against brother Lewis and his co-driver Anthony McLoughlin. The duo will pilot GR Yaris AP4s, starting with their home-town rally in Canberra and continuing through WA, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, and concluding with Rally Launceston in Tasmania in November.
Vin Naidoo, Toyota Australia Chief Marketing Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming year, highlighting the success of the current year with the inaugural TGRA Scholarship Series, an exhilarating finale at Bathurst in the TGRA 86 Series, and notable achievements in the ARC. Looking ahead to 2024, Naidoo anticipates even more thrilling action with the debut of the GR86 in the TGRA GR Cup and a full season of Scholarship Series races, providing aspiring professional drivers with a valuable opportunity to develop their skills in a safe, affordable, and exciting racing environment. Naidoo extended his best wishes to all competitors and teams, eagerly anticipating their presence on the track in 2024.
