Lately, Volkswagen expands the range of engines for the new Beetle with 1.6 TDI and 1.2 TSI engine in Europe. With the VW’s agile downsized engines with small displacement, direct injection and charging, the new Beetle is more fuel-efficient and joy to drive.

With VW’s technology, the 1.6 TDI Beetle needs only 4.5 l/100 km (equivalent to 119 g/km CO2) and achieves a max speed of 180km/h. A full tank of 55-litres diesel fuel, the Volkswagen thus has a theoretical driving range of 1,222km.
With the 1.2-litre TSI (77 kW / 105 PS), the entry to the world of Beetle engines is marked by a turbo-charged petrol direct-injection engine. The 1.2 TSI Beetle needs only 5.9 l/100km (equivalent to 137 g/km CO2) and achieves a max speed of 180km/h. The top engine is currently a 2.0-litre TSI (147 kW / 200 PS) that has a combined fuel consumption of 7.7 l/100 km (equivalent to 179 g/km CO2) and accelerates the Beetle to 223 km/h.
Anyway, the entry variant of Beetle 1.2 TSI with 105 PS starts at 16,950 euros in Europe. Though, we are unsure exactly which variants of new Beetle (1.2 TSI, 1.4 TSI or 2.0 TSI) will be introduced in Malaysia later. So, we got to be patient on this. One thing for sure that the TDI variants will not be in the list due to our local diesel fuel quality, although is upgraded to Euro 2M on a couple years ago.
