Lotus Cars are famous for their light weight sports car, now the automaker decided to go even lighter. The New Lotus Esprit which is preview in a few event and automotive show will go even lighter, in fact super light. Lotus Cars target to build the next Britain’s fastest production car – the Lotus Esprit Superleggera.
Lotus Esprit Superleggera will be Lotus’s flagship iconic sports car. A standard 562bhp 4.8-litre V8 engine will be use in this project and upgrade to 612bhp @ 9,000rpm. As Superleggera means super light, therefore the Esprit Superleggera will feature with aluminium body that is designed to be stronger and lighter.
According to Lotus Cars spokesman, the Lotus Esprit Superleggera won’t be simple as just stripping some parts from the standard Esprit. It will be designed carefully and precisely as a next evolution of New Esprit.
Lotus Esprit Superleggera will be the fourth variation of the new Lotus Esprit. The other 3 version would be a convertible, a glass-roofed Targa edition and a coup©. Lotus Esprit Superleggera will do 0-100km/h below 3 seconds and top speed of 212mph (341km/h).
Lotus Cars officially compared the new Lotus Esprit Superleggera with the McLaren MP4-12C which popular and well criticised with its steering feedback issue. The new Lotus Esprit Superleggera will feature a 7 speed dual clutch semi automatic gearbox and an electro-hydraulic power steering to give more feel and emotion to driver.
