Today, the new Mitsubishi Mirage is officially hitting the Malaysian road with a starting price of RM 55,328 (OTR before insurance) in Peninsular Malaysia. Accordingly, the new Mirage is the most fuel efficient compact car in its class and able to deliver impressive mileage of 21km/litre based on New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia introduces the Mirage to the local market with 3 variants – 5-speed manual GL, CVT GL and CVT GS with prices ranging from RM 55,328 to RM 63,120 on-the-road before insurance cost. Five colours options are available to all Mirage’s variant – Lemonade Yellow Metallic, Eisen Grey Mica, Red Metallic, White Pearl and Cool Silver Metallic.
We are glad that the 5-speed manual and INVECS-III CVT transmission are both available here. Thus, buyers can now pick for their preferred gearbox to be mated with 1.2-litre MIVEC engine on the new Mirage.
The new Mitsubishi Mirage is fully imported from Thailand. Thailand is the hub for production of Mirage worldwide including Japan. This car is awarded “eco-car” status in Thailand too.

The new 3A92 1.2-litre 3-cylinder MIVEC engine produces 78PS and 100Nm of torque. The new Mitsubishi Mirage is the lightest in class – the CVT variant weights 850kg while the Manual variant only 825kg. So, can you imagine the power to weight ratio? I don’t see much of performance issue on this car.
According to Mitsubishi, the body structure and more extensive use of high-tensile strength panels has optimised the vehicle to be lighter by 7%. At the same time, lighter body contributing to better fuel economy. Moreover, the Mirage uses Bridgestone Ecopia tyres which designed to reduced rolling resistance to enhances fuel efficiency.

The new Mirage comes with Smart Key with Push Start button, digital auto climate control, a 2-DIN Kenwood audio system with USB, iPod, and AUX interface, Bright View instrument cluster and a leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob.
On the safety aspect, the new Mitsubishi Mirage comes with Anti-lock braking system with EBD, dual SRS airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners, ISOFIX Child Seat Mount, Child Lock and Anti-Pinch Power Window.
Besides, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia offers a range of optional accessories for the Mirage. From Aero Package (RM1,999.90), Chrome Package (RM750.00), Ralliart fuel lid cover (RM150.00) and smart fit leather seats (RM1,500.00).

Speaking at the launch of the new Mitsubishi Mirage, Tetsuya Oda – the Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia said, “The introduction of Mirage is indeed a defining moment in our automotive journey in Malaysia as Mirage is the perfect model for our very first entry into the B-Segment Hatchback. With its superb fuel efficiency, advanced features and stylish compact design, we are confident of selling 400 units per month, with a target share of 20% in the B-Segment Hatchback, among non-national brand.”
Oda also revealed that Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia is confident of achieving its sales target of 13,000 cars for the fiscal year ending March 2013, thanks to the introduction of the Mirage and new variants of current models. From April to October 2012, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia sold close to 7,000 vehicles.
